It does not matter which technique you come from: Stanislavski, Strasberg, Meisner, Commedia dell'Arte or something else. What matters is that you are an actor who knows the craft and that you arrive with a genuine intention to work, for five days, all the way through.

Over these five days, we work on a fundamental part of The Human Actor system: the part that can immediately change the way an actor approaches a scene. The camera captures everything, and it recognises when an actor is serving themselves instead of the story. Here, you learn to use your instrument, yourself, honestly and sincerely, in service of the story. The system is clear and built to be understood, but like any real tool, it is absorbed through practice. Five days open the door; an actor's work continues for a lifetime. For international actors, the room works in English. Italian is available if you want to work a scene in Italian.

Actor-Centred Training

The actor is the centre of the room.

There is value in many kinds of masterclass. H.I.T. has a different purpose. It is not built around access to a guest casting director or director. You come here to train the actor's work itself: how you prepare, listen, act, respond and stay alive when the camera is close.

The goal is not to leave with a trick that works once. It is to strengthen a process you can carry into the next script, the next rehearsal, the next self-tape and the next set.

The System

What Is H.I.T.

H.I.T. is one framework inside The Human Actor. It is designed to move the actor away from demonstrating emotion and toward truthful behaviour, real listening and playable action inside the circumstances of the scene. During the Masterclass, the methodology is explored through practical text, scene and camera work rather than explained as a formula.

The Programme

5 Days of Intensive Work

01
Day
Deconstruction · Deep Analysis

The actor's process beyond the surface

You bring a prepared scene that will be used as the starting point for observing the actor's process beyond the surface of performance. We begin by identifying where control appears, where listening breaks down and where the need for a result takes the place of truthful action. From this analysis, work begins on scenes assigned to the participants and selected from plays. Each actor works on two pieces of material: a scene with a partner and a monologue. From the text to the dramatic structure, we explore the character's history, needs, atmosphere, circumstances and relationships. The work immediately focuses on human behaviour, listening and the construction of an organic process capable of transforming the scene from something to perform into something to live.

02
Day
The Structure · From Page to Body

The structure takes shape

We begin to build the character's behaviour through needs, objectives, obstacles and relationships. Layer by layer, the work moves from the idea of the character to their organic reality: no longer something to represent, but a human being who thinks, reacts and acts under precise circumstances. The focus is on building a living process capable of generating presence rather than external indications.

03
Day
Action · When the Structure Becomes Alive

The structure becomes flesh

On the third day, preparation is carried into concrete action. Through the practical work of The Human Actor, what has been built in the previous days stops remaining analysis and is tested in relationship, body and the circumstances of the scene. The focus is to make the work alive, specific and playable without turning it into a formula to perform.

04
Day
Preparing for the Set

Where the work meets the camera

The work now meets the technical demands of the camera. Through different framings and set dynamics, we explore how the body, behaviour and energy change in relation to the camera, learning to maintain listening, timing and organic behaviour under pressure. The day is dedicated to the practical preparation of the camera scenes that will be recorded the following day, allowing actors to deal with changes, unexpected direction and technical adjustments without losing the truth of the action.

05
Day
The Set · The Image of Truth

Your performance on camera

On the final day, each participant works in a pair on a two-person scene prepared during the Masterclass. The scene is recorded in a focused professional setup, with dedicated cinematography and sound, and is personally directed by Raja Sethi. The aim is not to make a short film, but to place the actor's work in direct contact with the technical and creative demands of the camera: framing, continuity, timing, adjustments and repeated takes without losing the truth of the behaviour.

In the Room

My Commitment

During the five days, I am fully available to the group. Questions are welcome: when they are about the work, everyone grows. We also talk about what can only be learned by working: behaviour on major sets, their difficulties and their unwritten rules.

Who It Is For

This Masterclass is for actors seeking

  • deeper behavioural truth,
  • psychophysical precision,
  • rigorous scene investigation,
  • organic response under pressure,
  • a more embodied relationship with acting,
  • the ability to work intensely, rigorously and without protective performance mechanisms,

Also relevant to screenwriters and film directors. The Masterclass is designed primarily for actors. Screenwriters who want to understand character from the inside, and film directors who want a deeper understanding of the actor's process and how to communicate direction, may also find the work valuable, especially in the observer format.

Who It Is Not For

This Masterclass is not designed for those who

  • are looking for an introductory or beginner acting course,
  • want casual or superficial participation,
  • intend to be disengaged, whether as a participant or observer,
  • are unwilling to be challenged, questioned or taken apart in the work.

The process requires discipline, openness, preparation and full presence.

The days are built with precision. The time dedicated to each person is a resource shared by everyone. Whoever enters this room enters to work.

Who Teaches
Raja Sethi

Raja Sethi

Actor · Writer · Creator of The Human Actor

Based in Italy, Raja Sethi has worked professionally in European film and television since 2012. His training began inside major acting traditions, including Stanislavski, Strasberg and Adler, and continued through years of work with teachers including Joseph Ragno, Adriano Davi, Susan Batson and Carl Ford. That training is part of his foundation; The Human Actor developed from years of professional practice, teaching and study into its own complete process from script analysis to performance.

Alongside acting and teaching, he continued studying human behaviour, psychology, embodiment and performance. The Human Actor is the result of that long practical investigation: a process designed to help actors prepare deeply enough to remain free, responsive and alive in performance.

International Actors · Training in English in Italy

Train in Florence. Act in English.

For actors travelling from outside Italy, English is the main working language of the room. If you want to work a scene in Italian, you can. Italian actors who want to practise acting in English can also choose to work their scenes in English. The point is to train the acting inside the scene, not to turn the class into accent, pronunciation or vocal coaching.

For actors comparing an acting masterclass in Italy, a screen acting workshop or film acting training in Florence, H.I.T. is deliberately positioned as advanced training: five concentrated days of scene analysis, character work, listening and acting for camera rather than an introductory class.

The masterclass takes place in Florence, but it is built for actors who travel to train. The five-day format is intentionally concentrated, so actors from elsewhere in Italy and from Europe can come for one serious working week without relocating for a long course.

Florence is served by Florence Airport (FLR) and Pisa Airport (PSA), and by direct high-speed rail from Rome and Milan. Practical location details and accommodation suggestions are sent to accepted participants once the November group is confirmed.

What Students Say

Voices From the Work

Giulia Agnolucci
Giulia Agnolucci
Student · The Human Actor

“The Human Actor method finally gave me a clear understanding of the process needed not only to approach a new role, but to understand the character in a deep, organic way and overcome the fear of not being able to put into practice the theoretical work behind preparing each new role. Through a series of logical, repeatable steps that continue to evolve, you can genuinely dig beyond the words and beyond the surface, giving body and life to a unique, coherent and real character. I am grateful for everything this technique has taught me and continues to teach me.”

Ghilda Gallifoco
Ghilda Gallifoco
Student · The Human Actor

“The technique offers concrete, functional working tools and follows a principle of progression. Starting from a technical foundation and the study of the essential components of the actor's work, you discover how your instrument processes technique and, above all, how to guide the inner flow towards the work. Preparing with The Human Actor helped me find clarity and direct my energy. From body to mind, from mind to body. What surprises me and what I appreciate most is its multidisciplinary nature, which truly reflects the complexity of the human being.”

Chiara Vestrucci
Chiara Vestrucci
Student · The Human Actor

“This technique helped me live the scene and made the emotions more spontaneous. I found the attention given to character analysis innovative, because it allows you to explore every aspect and understand the more complex nuances. This approach made my acting work more truthful and involving.”

Acting is not the simulation of emotion.

It is the organisation of authentic human behaviour under imaginary circumstances.

H.I.T. exists to bring the actor back to that truth.
